Episode 28: The One About Jason’s Big Announcement

Jason and Rita are back with another fun filled installment of Transmissions From Atlantis. First – we discuss if we sue BBC for developing a show called Atlantis with a main character named Jason? We talk some of our favorite new shows in Sci-Fi and a new video game for Stargate. We review Battlestar Galactica Blood & Chrome as well as the latest episode The Walking Dead.

Jason gives you a huge announcement and in Transmissions Received we talk to artist extraordinaire Ray Dillon. In our Doctor Who segment, we have huge 50th anniversary rumors plus we chat about Jon Pertwee.

Should Who Fans or Who guests go to DragonCon? See the articles below.

I would not be going anyway since it is on the same weekend as the World Science Fiction Convention. I am prejudiced since I was angry at Kramer for moving DragonCon from the 4th of July to Labor Day (which was the traditional Worldcon weekend) in 2000. I only went back once in 2005 (the Worldcon was in Scotland and not on Labor Day that year) to go with a friend who had never been to a con that big.

Trust me Juan, as a Whovian, you’ll be angry at yourself for not going to Dragon*Con this year. You’ll see. 🙂

Yeah, I heard about the boycott earlier in the month. We chose not to cover it at this point.

Yes, Ed Kramer is a grade A douchebag and it sucks he still benefits from Dragon*Con – but the man, like him or hate him, created the event. He’s entitled to what he’s earned.

It’s like me going on a Tony Montana styled cocaine shooting spree. Yeah, I’m a jerk and I’m going to get the death penalty but any money made from my books or StarMage will still be due to my family. They’re my creations. (For the record, I never have done a recreational drug (sans Captain Morgan Black) in my life so its an unlikely scenario).

All this boycott will do is deprive those who partake in it from the benefits of going to Dragon*Con (i.e. meeting and talking to the actors and producers who make the shows we love).

Dragon*Con will have 50,000 people there whether you’re there or not so you’re not hurting Kramer, you’re hurting yourself.

All we are saying is that we know folks in the Brit Track. We know what they have planned this year but we’ve been sworn to secrecy. We’ve done our duty in letting Whovians know that this is a big year for Doctor Who – A BIG year and they should get a jump on reservations.

When they make their plans official, any whovian who hasn’t gotten their reservations yet will be kicking themselves.
