Getting it in just under the gun, we give you a fantabulous Episode 2 of Transmissions From Atlantis. This week’s episode is chock full of gooey goodness for your listening pleasure.

We’ll give you our review of the blockbuster movie Prometheus. We’ll also review the sensational season two of Game of Thrones as well as the vampirific season premiere of True Blood.

We’ll check in with the alumni of the cult fantasy TV series Highlander in our Where Are They Now segment.

In our weekly Doctor Who segment, we’ll give you some names on who we think would be good choices to follow Matt Smith as the 12th Doctor. We’ll also give you a taste of the Whovian Celtic Pub Rock band, the Ken Spivey Band. We’ll also give you the 411 about the Little People’s problems with Snow White and the Huntsman.

Having now listened to all of Episode One and most of Episode Two, I thought I’d throw out a few constructive suggestions.

Since the TFA podcast covers a wide range of topics on each episode, it might be helpful if you could post start times on the website for each segment/topic. For example, the Highlander segment starts at such and such time, Prometheus starts at this time, etc. Earth Station One does this, allowing one to skip over segments that might be of little interest to a given listener.

This can be important, as one may not have enough time to listen to an entire two hour podcast in one sitting and might want to get to the material that he/she does have a major interest in. Since TFA is covering a wide range of topics, it’s almost guaranteed that every listener that you are able to attract is going to have a myraid of interests and some topics are not going to be of interest to that person in particular. While some might have the patience to sit through topics of little interest to them, most would probably rather skip over these and get to the material that is of interest to them.

For example, with Episode Two, I had little interest in the Highlander portion of the podcast as I was unaware there was even a television show and had never seen the original movie or its sequel. I also would have like to skip over the Prometheus review, as I’ve yet to see that particular film. Having the start times of the following segment/topic would have allowed me to do so and given my limited listening time allowed me to listen to just the segments that I had a real interest in (Who Should Play the 12th Doctor, Ken Spivey, Snow White and the Huntsman).

I’ll admit to having done this plenty of time with Earth Station One podcasts, skipping over material that has little interest to me. For example, last week’s ESO episode (#114), which dealt with the Avengers comics was of very little interest to me, as I don’t read the Avengers comic books. So I simply skipped over the segment, but listened to the rest of the podcast. However, this week’s ESO podcast is one of great interest to me, as they’ll be revisiting Stargate SG-1, so that one I’ll probably listen to the vast majority of the podcast.

On the positive side, I do like the he said/she said type of vibe I’m getting from your podcast, as it offers a very different vibe from Earth Station One which has more of a boys club vibe going for it with the Mikes and Bobby.

One last suggestion, while I’m sure that most of the stuff that will get covered by TFA will be sci-fi/fantasy/genre related, don’t feel that you need to cover that stuff exclusively. If you want to talk about a non-genre show or property, you should feel free to do so. I like sci-fi and fantasy shows, but I do watch/listen to/enjoy a wide variety of material. For example, TNT made a splash this week with the return of Dallas. Granted, Dallas isn’t a genre show, but if you happened to watch the premiere, here’s one listener who would love to hear what your thoughts were on the show. Also feel free to offer reviews of non-genre films that you might happen to see, for example I’m looking forward to Oliver Stone’s Savages, which is hardly a genre film but I’d love to hear what your thoughts on the film should you decide to see it.

That’s probably enough for now. Here’s hoping you find my comments helpful.

      Hi Mark!

Thanks so much for the suggestions – I think posting times is a great idea and we’ll definitely begin implementing that in future episodes.

TFA is a show of our interests – which typically align with Sci-Fi, Fantasy or Horror. Dallas wouldn’t be something we’d be interested in covering and I haven’t really felt a buzz to see Savages. However, we definitely may veer from time to time. For example, The Bourne Legacy is something I’m thoroughly interested in seeing and it wouldn’t surprise me if a review appeared on the show.

We really appreciate you listening and thanks again for the suggestions.

      We appreciate the feedback!
