The first 2 Doctors did only 3 years but one must remember how the show was made in the 60s. They made over 40 episodes a year. The next 3 Doctors the changed that to 26 episodes a year. Colin Baker's first season they changed the format to 50 minute episodes and they made 13 of those. The next season they stuck to 14 episodes a year and this was the count for the rest of the classic show. I say this because I do not think three years is a good guide for how long a Doctor should stay since in the 60s they were doing more episodes per season.

Shada was cancelled due to a strike at the BBC. Before the strike all the outside filming and a lot of studio filming were shot for the story. If you want the details it is in the Graham Williams (Classic series 8th producer) documentary on The Ribos Operation DVD (note this was on the DVD that came in The Key to Time box set). That documentary explains why the strike happened.

A couple of comments.

-In Pyramids of Mars, Sarah just picked a dress she fancied in the wardrobe. The Doctor said it was one of Victoria's dresses.

-Supposedly the UNIT stories were implied to be 5 years in the future. Someone forgot about this around the time Mawdryn Undead.

See you at Megacon.

I have to agree to disagree with you. I do want to clarify a few facts. (Please correct me if I am wrong)

Full disclosure, I would probably not go to a Dragoncon anyway since there is another event I would rather go to, World Science Fiction Convention ( a con which has give Doctor Who 5 Hugo Awards), on Labor Day weekend. I have been going to the con for over 20 years and the con itself is 70 years old. There have been occasions the cons have not conflicted.

in 2000,when Kramer was charged, he was removed as Dragoncon con chair. Everyone was cool with that, but we did not know that Kramer was still receiving money from Dragoncon at that time. This fact came to light a few years ago when Kramer sued Dragoncon for profits withheld. At this time Kramer was on parole, so it was "huh" moment but since he was not proven guilty I gave him the benefit of doubt. That ended for me in 2011 when he got arrested in Conneticut. The one thing I am not clear on is if dissolving the company and forming a new company is as hard as others i.e. it could prevent a Dragoncon event for years. It is really that hard? Even so I think the Dragoncon brand has lost its luster and maybe a re-branding would be a good thing.

You guys did a good discussion on the topic.

Yeah, I heard about the boycott earlier in the month. We chose not to cover it at this point.

Yes, Ed Kramer is a grade A douchebag and it sucks he still benefits from Dragon*Con - but the man, like him or hate him, created the event. He's entitled to what he's earned.

It's like me going on a Tony Montana styled cocaine shooting spree. Yeah, I'm a jerk and I'm going to get the death penalty but any money made from my books or StarMage will still be due to my family. They're my creations. (For the record, I never have done a recreational drug (sans Captain Morgan Black) in my life so its an unlikely scenario).

All this boycott will do is deprive those who partake in it from the benefits of going to Dragon*Con (i.e. meeting and talking to the actors and producers who make the shows we love).

Dragon*Con will have 50,000 people there whether you're there or not so you're not hurting Kramer, you're hurting yourself.

All we are saying is that we know folks in the Brit Track. We know what they have planned this year but we've been sworn to secrecy. We've done our duty in letting Whovians know that this is a big year for Doctor Who - A BIG year and they should get a jump on reservations.

When they make their plans official, any whovian who hasn't gotten their reservations yet will be kicking themselves.
